Privacy and Security

Due to the personal and sensitive nature of the information stored and viewed on this site, the security of the data was a high priority when designing and building the system. State of the art technology has been employed to ensure that the information stored on, and transmitted to and from the site is secure at all times.

Security is provided by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, which prevents the un-authorised interception of passwords and data in transit. This involves a server certificate issued by a third party to verify the server is legitimate, and sophisticated encryption of the data that is nearly impossible to crack. This same technology is employed by banks and financial institutions to secure their sites and their customers financial data.

Data submitted to this site is stored securely on servers at the host (Internode Professional Access), with the database being an open source SQL model, that is robust and very secure. Data entered into the system is backed up nightly by Internode and is not transferred to any other physical location. Physical security of the data is also assured with Internode having very strict policies regarding the physical access to the servers.

All access to the site is via the use of username and passwords. Passwords generated are 'secure' in that they are random letters and numbers and can not be easily guessed. Great care has been taken with the code to allow a carer to view information for only the individuals they look after, and make certain they cannot view the data of others. Once logged in and an individual has been selected, the data of other individuals cannot be viewed until the user has logged out and logged back in again. This allows individuals themselves to enter their own data without interfering with the data of other individuals inadvertently.
